
Kingsport, TN – March 20, 2025 - Mattern & Craig is excited to announce the expansion of the firm’s environmental division with Carol Ford and Amy Charles joining the team. Alongside Brandon Phillips, they will provide a full array of environmental and biological services to our clients. Carol and Amy bring a wealth of knowledge and experience and will serve Mattern & Craig’s service area throughout the southeast from our East Tennessee offices.

Carol Goldinger Ford is a licensed Professional Geologist in multiple states, including TN and VA. She has more than 35 years of professional experience providing environmental, geotechnical, and industrial hygiene services to both industry and public sector clients. She has implemented many projects involving surface & groundwater investigations, sinkhole evaluations, and erosion protection & sediment control services throughout the southeast. Skilled in project management, Carol has managed specialized projects including environmental mitigation and remediation, subsurface investigations, environmental assessments, real-time instrumentation monitoring, and construction site stormwater quality control.
A graduate of Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, Carol joins Mattern & Craig in the role of Senior Environmental Specialist.
Amy Charles has a variety of environmental project execution and management experience encompassing a wide range of disciplines, including hazardous materials assessments (asbestos, lead based paint, mold, PCBs, EPA Universal Wastes), and asbestos and lead air monitoring. Additionally, she has performed groundwater sampling, groundwater monitoring well installation, well redevelopment, methane monitoring, stormwater sampling, and soil sampling and screening. She recently received Level 2 certification in the Tennessee Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control (EPSC) Training Program for Construction Sites. In addition to her environmental experieince, she taught earth science and biology for over 10 years in Arizona. She will join the firm’s other licensed and certified professionals to inspect and monitor stormwater discharges from permitted construction sites.
Amy received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology from West Virginia University and a Master of Science in Science Education from the University of Arizona and joins Mattern & Craig as an Environmental Scientist.
